The Glories of Japa Meditation

Japa meditation — the quiet, personal chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra on a strand of 108 beads — is one of the simplest yet most transformative practices in the Krishna consciousness tradition.

Each morning, devotees at ISKCON Guntur gather before sunrise to chant sixteen rounds of the mantra, a practice that anchors the mind, calms the senses, and opens the heart to spiritual experience. Unlike group kirtan, japa is an intimate conversation with the divine — chanted softly enough only for oneself to hear.

Srila Prabhupada often explained that the sound of the holy names is non-different from Krishna Himself. Regular practice of japa, he taught, gradually purifies the consciousness and reveals our original, joyful relationship with God.

Whether you are new to the practice or a seasoned chanter, visiting our temple's morning program is a wonderful way to experience the peace that Japa meditation brings.
